Audi and Volkswagen Recall Over 2.1 Million Vehicles Due to Steering Issue
Audi and Volkswagen are recalling over 2.1 million vehicles worldwide due to a potentially faulty bolt in the steering gear. In the worst-case scenario, this could lead to a loss of steering.
Automakers Audi and Volkswagen have initiated a global recall affecting more than 2.1 million vehicles. The reason for the recall is a potentially defective bolt in the steering gear that could break due to corrosion. In the worst-case scenario, this may lead to a failure of the steering system, increasing the risk of accidents.
Approximately one million vehicles in Germany and over two million globally are affected by the necessary repair. The recall covers Audi Q3 models and Volkswagen Golf, Golf Variant, Tiguan, Touran, and Caddy. Some vehicles were produced between September 2013 and May 2024.
According to the manufacturers, corrosion under certain circumstances can cause the steering gear bolt to break. To date, the manufacturer has not reported any instances where the defect has caused property damage or personal injury.
Owners of affected vehicles are advised to schedule an appointment at a dealership. The steering gear bolt will be inspected and the existing bolt replaced with a more corrosion-resistant version. This procedure is free of charge for vehicle owners. The recall code for Audi is 48 LG, and for Volkswagen, it is 48 VS.
