Audi has commenced production of its all-electric A2 e-tron model at its Ingolstadt plant. The company has accelerated the development process by 21 months and reduced complexity to improve efficiency.
Automaker Audi has started the production of its fully electric A2 e-tron model at its facility in Ingolstadt, Germany. The first units rolled off the assembly line on Friday, marking a key step in the company's efforts to enhance operational efficiency.
The development timeline for the A2 e-tron has been significantly shortened, reduced by 21 months compared to previous vehicle projects. This acceleration was achieved through streamlined processes and leveraging prior project experiences, alongside a reduction in model variants and assembly complexity.
Audi has focused on reducing production complexity for the A2 e-tron by decreasing the number of part numbers and implementing a 'string-of-pearls' manufacturing principle. This method optimizes the production sequence, minimizes the need for warehousing and sequencing areas, thereby streamlining logistics and improving cost-effectiveness.
The plant also incorporates Audi Cloud and AI assistants for process management and employee support. Body production for the A2 e-tron is integrated flexibly on the same line as the Audi A3 models. Furthermore, a substantial portion of production components, including robots, has been repurposed from earlier models.
