Audi begins series production of A2 e-tron at Ingolstadt plant

Audi has commenced mass production of the A2 e-tron at its Ingolstadt facility. The launch of the new electric model marks a significant shift in the company’s manufacturing strategy, focusing on accelerated time-to-market and increased operational efficiency.

The development-to-production phase for the A2 e-tron was completed 21 months faster than previous vehicle launches. This was achieved by significantly reducing the number of individual components and implementing a “string-of-pearls” production principle, which aligns logistics with specific customer orders to eliminate storage bottlenecks.

To manage costs and resource usage, Audi repurposed more than 1,200 production tools and 250 industrial robots previously used for other models. The facility in Ingolstadt now utilizes a flexible layout, allowing the simultaneous assembly of A2 e-tron bodies alongside the Audi A3, demonstrating the company's effort to integrate electric vehicles into existing infrastructure.
