Audi Bolsters Production Network with New Electric Model in Ingolstadt

German automaker Audi is enhancing its production network with significant changes at its Ingolstadt facility.

The Ingolstadt plant will commence integrated production of the Audi Q3 in mid-2026, in collaboration with Audi Hungaria in Győr, Hungary. Concurrently, preparations are underway for the production of the all-electric Audi A2 e-tron at the site. Production of the Audi Q2 in Ingolstadt will conclude in April 2026, after 887,231 units have been manufactured since 2016.

Simultaneously, production of the Audi A1 is winding down at the Martorell plant in Spain, where the model has been built since 2010, totaling over 1.3 million units. The new Q3 production arrangement is part of a broader agreement aimed at balancing plant capacity and meeting demand for SUVs. Car bodies will be manufactured in Győr and transported by rail to Ingolstadt for painting and final assembly.

The Ingolstadt facility will continue to produce two internal combustion engine models, the Audi A3 and Audi Q3. However, the company is accelerating its electrification efforts at the plant. Following the Q6 e-tron and A6 e-tron, production of a new all-electric model line is set to begin in fall 2026.

Audi is also strengthening the role of its Neckarsulm plant, preparing to manufacture a new fully electric sports model from 2027. Furthermore, the company is developing Neckarsulm into a competence center for digitalization and artificial intelligence.
