Audi Changes Management for F1 Project
Mattia Binotto takes on Team Principal role for Audi's F1 project alongside his existing duties. Jonathan Wheatley departs for personal reasons.
Audi has adjusted the management structure for its Formula 1 project, appointing Mattia Binotto as Team Principal in addition to his role as Head of Audi F1 Project. Jonathan Wheatley is leaving the Audi Revolut F1 Team immediately due to personal reasons.
Wheatley joined the Audi F1 Project in April 2025. He worked with Binotto to establish the racing team at the Hinwil facility in Switzerland, which scored points in its F1 debut in early March. With this change, Binotto assumes leadership at the track for the Audi Revolut F1 Team.
"We are grateful to Jonathan Wheatley for his contribution to the project during the crucial entry phase and wish him all the best for the future," stated Gernot Döllner, CEO of AUDI AG. "Mattia Binotto and the team will continue to pursue the path we have chosen with determination. Our focus remains unchanged: we are concentrating all our efforts on building a team competing at the highest level that will challenge for world championships in Formula 1 by 2030."
This management change was announced on March 20, 2026.
