Audi updates Q5 SUV with new design and OLED lighting

German automaker Audi has introduced updates to its Q5 SUV, aiming to enhance its appeal in the competitive premium mid-size segment. The revised model features a sharper exterior design and incorporates new technologies, including digital OLED taillights, marking a first for the Q5 line.

The exterior updates focus on reinforcing the Q5's SUV identity. The Singleframe grille is now shallower and appears wider, while redesigned side sills contribute to a lighter visual stance. The rear of the vehicle has also been revised with a new trim element between the taillights and a revised diffuser. Customers can opt for either the 'advanced' design line or the sportier 'S line' package.

Inside, the Q5's interior design emphasizes spaciousness with a horizontal layout. A new, freestanding MMI touch display with acoustic feedback is now the central element, replacing the previous rotary dial on the center console. Various interior trims and ambient lighting packages are available to customize the cabin.

A significant technological addition is the introduction of digital OLED taillight technology. These lights offer a homogenous light surface and allow for customizable light signatures. Customers can choose from three different rear-light signatures, which can also change when the car's drive select mode is set to 'dynamic'. The OLED system also includes a proximity detection function, warning if a road user approaches within two meters when the vehicle is stationary, provided it is equipped with certain assistance systems.
