Audi's F1 Logistics and Production Chain Share Learnings
Experts from Audi's Formula 1 racing team's logistics and the car manufacturer's global supply chain are exchanging experiences to accelerate decision-making and improve efficiency in both areas.

INGOLSTADT, Germany – The logistics operations of Audi's Formula 1 racing team and the car manufacturer's global supply chains are benefiting from shared insights. Experts from both domains have discussed how the rapid response and efficient resource management required on the racetrack can be applied to the production of series vehicles.
Formula 1 logistics present extreme challenges: over 20 race weekends, global supply chains, tight schedules, and the constant pressure to deliver every component on time. Björn Brickwedde, Head of Logistics at Audi Sport F1 Team, explains that every euro saved in logistics can be reinvested into car development and parts, a critical factor under F1's cost cap.
"Speed is one of the most crucial requirements across our entire company, not just on the track but also in decision-making," states Dieter Braun, Head of Audi Supply Chain. The F1 team serves as a model for quick decisions, clear responsibilities, and meticulous preparation.
Audi's supply chain, in turn, manages the entire customer order process, overseeing thousands of suppliers in nearly 60 countries. Approximately one million parts move daily through this system. The collaboration aims to optimize costs, capital tied up, and the carbon footprint. Braun notes that the supply chain's contribution to improving company earnings can amount to hundreds of millions of euros.
