Audi's smallest electric car, A2 E-tron, spotted in testing
Audi is developing a new compact all-electric model, the A2 E-tron, set to fill the market segment vacated by the A1 and Q2 upon their retirement.
Audi has begun testing its upcoming A2 E-tron, a compact all-electric vehicle that will become the brand's smallest EV. Spotted undergoing road tests, the A2 E-tron is slated to occupy the market space left by the A1 and Q2 after their planned discontinuation next year.
Positioned to bridge the gap between hatchback and crossover segments, the new model will complement the A3 hatchback and Q2 crossover. Visually, the A2 E-tron presents a shrunken Q4 E-tron silhouette, blended with design cues from the original, rounded A2 model that was produced from 1999 to 2005. Audi may opt for a new name instead of reviving the A2 moniker, as it doesn't directly replace a single outgoing model.
Industry reports suggest the A2 E-tron will share its platform and potentially technology with the upcoming Elroq model. For reference, the Elroq is expected to offer battery options ranging from 58 kWh to 79 kWh, providing a maximum range of approximately 360 miles (579 km), with a performance variant outputting up to 335 bhp.
The A2 E-tron is expected to be officially revealed this autumn. Pricing is anticipated to be higher than that of the Volkswagen ID.3 Neo, which currently starts at €33,995 in Germany.
