The Österreichs Wanderdörfer network has launched several new routes that integrate hiking with the region's culinary heritage. The initiative aims to provide travelers with a holistic experience combining physical activity and local flavors, emphasizing traditional and homemade products.
Around Millstätter See in Carinthia, special culinary events are scheduled from early September to the end of October. These take place at scenic locations such as the Granattor viewpoint and waterside gardens. Local top chefs prepare dishes using regional ingredients like herbs, wild vegetables, fish, and meat, often accompanied by musical or cabaret performances.
In Bregenzerwald, Vorarlberg, the five-day "Cheese Trail" offers insights into cheese production and the picturesque landscapes. The route passes through alpine pastures and dairies where visitors can sample local specialties. A package including luggage transport and shuttle services is available for those wishing to purchase products.
Pillerseetal in Tyrol hosts events featuring schnapps and music, enhancing the hiking experience. GIDIs Genusswerkstatt produces and sells local spirits. The area also offers a "Music & Culinary" package that includes accommodation and several music events, extending the season into autumn.
