Austrian Hiking Villages Offer Dog-Friendly Routes and Stays
Österreichs Wanderdörfer is expanding its offerings for dog owners, introducing designated hiking routes and accommodation options catering to canine companions.

Several destinations within Österreichs Wanderdörfer are adapting to welcome canine visitors by providing specific hiking routes and dog-friendly accommodations. This initiative aims to simplify holiday planning for pet owners who wish to include their dogs in their travel.
Ramsau am Dachstein is one of the areas offering tailored routes for dogs. The hike through the Silberkar gorge is a 4.27-kilometer trail with a low difficulty rating, suitable even for smaller dogs. The route features water sources for dogs to drink and cool off. Travel to the Dachstein plateau is also possible with dogs via the panoramic cable car, subject to a fee and specific regulations including leash and muzzle requirements.
The St. Johann in Tirol region within the Kitzbühel Alps is also well-prepared for dog visitors. Areas like Bichlach and around the Kitzbüheler Horn offer suitable trails without extremely exposed or challenging sections. A dedicated swimming zone for dogs is also available at Gieringer Weiher.
For a different experience, the Region Villach introduces dedicated "dog hiking days" in the Dobratsch Nature Park. These events provide opportunities for owners to receive guidance on handling dogs in natural environments from experienced trainers. The hiking routes leading up to Dobratsch mountain are generally suitable for walking with dogs.
