Austrian Hiking Villages Offer Winter Experiences

As winter arrives, Austrian Hiking Villages invites travelers to enjoy snow-covered landscapes and crisp air. Destinations like Schladming-Dachstein, Ramsau am Dachstein, and Montafon are offering alternatives to traditional ski holidays.

The Schladming-Dachstein region features a new winter hiking map with routes up Hochwurzen, Planai, and Dachstein, providing a more affordable option than standard ski lift passes. Ramsau am Dachstein's sunny plateau boasts 70 kilometers of marked and prepared winter hiking trails, alongside dedicated snowshoe paths.

In Montafon, snowshoers have access to 150 kilometers of routes, complemented by an additional 290 kilometers of prepared winter hiking trails. For those seeking tranquility, Waldviertel offers a peaceful retreat with relaxation services and husky sledding excursions.

Grossarltal, located at the entrance to Hohe Tauern National Park, provides guided snowshoe hikes and ski tours from Christmas to Easter. Ice climbing on frozen waterfalls is also available. Guests of member establishments receive these special mountain experiences free of charge.
