Automated Security Validation as a tool for continuous threat assessment

Automated Security Validation (ASV) represents a shift toward continuous verification of an organization's defensive posture. By deploying software that simulates real-world attack behaviors, companies can test how their security controls—such as firewalls and endpoint detection systems—perform against actual adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs).

The process often leverages Adversarial Exposure Validation (AEV), which combines Breach and Attack Simulation (BAS) and automated penetration testing. Unlike traditional, periodic vulnerability scans that provide a static view of risks, ASV operates dynamically. It identifies which software vulnerabilities or configuration gaps are genuinely exploitable within a specific infrastructure, allowing security teams to focus remediation efforts on the most critical threats.

This approach helps organizations reduce the backlog of patching by filtering out theoretical risks that do not pose a direct threat due to existing compensating controls. As organizations integrate these tools into broader frameworks like Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM), they maintain a clearer understanding of their ability to detect and block evolving malicious activity.
