AV-TEST Evaluates VPN Software for Private Users
IT security institute AV-TEST has evaluated popular VPN software for private users on Windows 10, assessing performance, security, and privacy.

The IT security research institute AV-TEST has released a new comparison of VPN software designed for private users operating on Windows 10.
The test assessed the software's ability to provide anonymous web browsing, circumvent geo-restrictions, ensure secure connections, and protect user privacy. Additionally, the performance of the software, including data transfer speeds for both local and international connections, was analyzed.
The primary software packages examined were F-Secure Freedome, Kaspersky Secure Connection, and NordVPN. All tested products met the laboratory's approval criteria and received recognition as an "Approved Virtual Private Network Solution".
The performance test specifically focused on speed in both direct connections and torrent networks. Results are broadly categorized into three tiers: below industry average, within industry average, and above industry average performance. Users can download detailed figures in a PDF format for expert analysis.
The evaluation also covered software usability, security features, privacy protection, and transparency. Transparency specifically refers to how openly a provider communicates its company origin, data handling practices, and applicable legal frameworks.
