AV-TEST Launches New Certification Tests for Enterprise Network Security Gateways

Security firm AV-TEST has introduced new certification tests for enterprise-focused network security solutions. The newly launched tests specifically target Secure Web Gateways (SWG) and Secure DNS products, which are central to securing corporate networks. The solutions undergoing evaluation can be cloud-based services, virtual machines, or physical hardware appliances.

Gateways play a critical role in network communication, as all data entering or leaving a company's network must pass through them. Their function is to inspect, analyze, and protect data streams from potential threats, while also enforcing the company's security policies.

AV-TEST's laboratory notes a wide array of manufacturers and solutions available on the market. The tests encompass key functionalities such as URL filtering, real-time traffic inspection, application control, data leak prevention, antivirus, and malware protection. The focus is primarily on SWG solutions, which often integrate DNS protection capabilities.

The certification process aims to provide manufacturers with tools for quality assurance of their products and to enhance their market acceptance. The testing methodology is standardized and includes evaluations at the DNS level as well as broader network traffic protection tests.
