AV-TEST Names Top Android Security Apps After Extended Testing

IT security research firm AV-TEST has released findings from a comprehensive six-month test assessing the effectiveness of 11 Android security applications against malware. The evaluation involved testing against over 18,000 malicious applications to determine real-world protection capabilities.

The results indicate that four security apps achieved perfect scores, demonstrating a 100% success rate in detecting and blocking threats. These top performers were noted for their ability to identify malicious software without impacting device performance or battery life.

An additional five apps received very good ratings, with only minor detection errors. The remaining applications also performed adequately, though not reaching the highest performance benchmarks.

The testing methodology included real-time detection of more than 9,000 new malware samples, as well as assessment against a reference set of established but dangerous threats. The study also checked for false positives, where safe applications are mistakenly flagged as malicious.

AV-TEST's findings suggest that robust security solutions are available for Android users, highlighting the importance of installing a reliable security app to enhance device protection.
