AV-TEST: Secure Passwords Achieved Through Password Managers
Digital security expert AV-TEST has released guidance on creating and managing strong passwords. The report emphasizes the importance of using password managers for enhanced security.

Digital security research firm AV-TEST has published a report focusing on the creation and management of robust passwords. The research indicates that a significant majority of users employ simple and reused passwords, leaving them vulnerable to data breaches.
The report highlights that only approximately one in ten users utilizes a password manager, which is identified as the most effective method for securing multiple online services. AV-TEST advocates for digitally generated passwords that are both complex and unique to each platform.
For less sensitive online services, browser-integrated features for automatic password generation and storage, such as those in Google Chrome, can be used. However, these functionalities lack advanced security measures and may pose risks if a device is compromised.
To manage a multitude of complex passwords, AV-TEST recommends dedicated password manager applications. Programs like the open-source KeePass require only one strong master password to securely store and access all other credentials across various devices. Commercial and cloud-based solutions, including LastPass, F-Secure Key, and Norton Password Manager, are also available options.
