AV-TEST: Security solutions withstand advanced malware attacks
In AV-TEST's latest tests, 20 security products demonstrated their ability to defend against sophisticated infostealer and ransomware attacks in Windows 11.
In the latest Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) test, conducted in September 2026, 20 security products were put to the test in Windows 11 environments.
The test evaluated how effectively security solutions for consumers and businesses can detect and defend against advanced attack methods used by malware, including infostealers and ransomware. Attackers often employ a combination of techniques to conceal malicious activity and bypass traditional defenses.
The test included nine consumer products from Avast, AVG, Avira, ESET, K7 Computing, Kaspersky, McAfee, Norton, and Surfshark. Additionally, eleven business solutions from Acronis, Avast, Kaspersky (two versions), Microworld, Net Protector, Norton, Qualys, Symantec, Trellix, and WithSecure were evaluated.
All consumer security products achieved perfect scores, demonstrating flawless detection capabilities against the tested attacks. Nearly all business solutions also performed flawlessly against the ten different attack scenarios.
The ATP test awards up to 35 points per product, with 20 points allocated for five infostealer scenarios and 15 points for five ransomware scenarios. The test utilized real-world attack techniques, such as DLL sideloading and scheduled tasks, to emulate methods used by cybercriminals.
