AWS Amazon DataZone AI feature for descriptions generally available

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced the general availability of a new AI-powered feature within Amazon DataZone. This capability automatically generates descriptions for business data assets, aiming to significantly improve data discoverability and governance for organizations.

The new feature is designed to address customer needs for managing and finding value in large datasets spread across various departments and data sources. It assists data consumers, such as data engineers and analysts, in quickly understanding the business context and intended use cases of data assets.

Amazon DataZone provides a centralized portal for employees to discover, access, and share data across multiple AWS accounts and teams. The AI-generated descriptions, built on Amazon Bedrock technology, help create comprehensive metadata and business context, making data more accessible and governable.

AWS developed the feature based on customer feedback, with the goal of reducing manual effort in describing and documenting data. This allows organizations to more effectively leverage petabytes or even exabytes of data from diverse data stores, including on-premises systems and third-party data sources.
