AWS and CyberArk enhance AWS console access management

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has collaborated with its AWS Security Competency Partner, CyberArk, to provide guidance on implementing "Zero Standing Privileges" for securing access to the AWS console. This initiative aims to enhance security and operational efficiency for organizations utilizing AWS cloud services.

The approach addresses the common challenge of balancing development velocity with robust security controls. Traditionally, granting extensive access for development tasks could introduce security risks. The new guidance focuses on enabling developers to perform their duties efficiently while ensuring that privileged access is temporary and strictly controlled.

"Zero Standing Privileges" means that users do not have permanent high-level access rights. Instead, access is granted on a just-in-time basis, often requiring approval, and is revoked once the task is completed. This principle significantly reduces the attack surface and the potential impact of compromised credentials.

By adopting this method, organizations can better protect their sensitive data and resources within the AWS environment. The collaboration between AWS and CyberArk seeks to provide a framework that supports both agile cloud development and strong identity security governance, helping customers meet compliance requirements and mitigate security threats.
