AWS and Exostellar to Reduce Semiconductor Design Costs

Amazon Web Services (AWS) and its partner Exostellar are collaborating to reduce the high costs of semiconductor chip design. Exostellar's Infrastructure Optimizer tool allows customers to run long-running, stateful electronic design automation (EDA) jobs utilizing Amazon EC2 Spot Instances.

Semiconductor design is a computationally intensive and expensive process. Amazon EC2 Spot Instances offer significant discounts, up to 90% compared to On-Demand pricing, by leveraging unused EC2 capacity. The challenge has been using these cost-effective instances for long-running and stateful EDA jobs, as they can be interrupted on short notice.

Exostellar Infrastructure Optimizer is designed to minimize the risks associated with using EC2 Spot Instances for these demanding workloads. The tool helps chip designers avoid potential disruptions and ensure the continuity of their complex design processes.

AWS cloud infrastructure provides the scalability needed by the semiconductor industry to meet ever-increasing demands for compute power and storage. By combining Exostellar's optimization solution with AWS's flexible pricing models, companies can streamline their design workflows and achieve significant cost savings.
