Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced updates to its Global Accelerator service, aimed at bolstering application resiliency and availability.
The service's architecture has been updated to include several features designed to prevent failures. These include global static Anycast IP addresses, network zones, and a cell-based architecture to distribute traffic and avoid single points of failure. Additionally, the service incorporates Shuffle Sharding for load balancing and multi-Region Amazon Route 53 health checks.
AWS defines resiliency as a workload or service's ability to recover from stress caused by load, attacks, or component failures. Non-resilient architectures lead to poor customer experiences due to application or service unavailability, often caused by single points of failure or requests being routed to overloaded or unhealthy components.
