AWS Releases Guide for SMS and Voice Messaging API Migration
Amazon Web Services has published a guide for upgrading from its previous SMS and Voice messaging API (v1) to the newer v2 API. The migration offers enhanced capabilities and features for communication services.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has released a guide detailing the steps for developers to upgrade their SMS and Voice messaging APIs. The migration focuses on transitioning from the older v1 version to the new v2 API, which provides enhanced capabilities and scalability.
The updated v2 API is part of the AWS End User Messaging service, consolidating communication features previously associated with Amazon Pinpoint. While Amazon Pinpoint's end-of-support is scheduled for October 2026, existing SMS customers are not required to migrate at this time. This upgrade path is optional and aimed at users seeking to leverage the advanced features available in the v2 API.
AWS End User Messaging offers developers a scalable infrastructure for multi-channel communication, including SMS, MMS, text-to-speech, WhatsApp, and mobile push notifications. Use cases include sending one-time passwords (OTP), account updates, appointment reminders, and delivery notifications.
Developers migrating to the v2 API can utilize their existing SMS phone numbers and sender IDs without needing to re-register new originators. This streamlines the migration process and ensures continued integration with AWS communication services.
