Axera Launches 5nm Automotive Chips M97 and M95 for Smart Driving

Chinese technology firm Axera has announced the release of two new 5nm chips, the M97 and M95, designed for intelligent driving systems. Both chips meet stringent automotive industry standards and offer advanced AI capabilities.

Chinese technology firm Axera has unveiled two new 5-nanometer process chips for intelligent driving, the M97 and M95. The M97 is positioned as a flagship platform for high-level autonomous driving and integrated sensing, while the M95 is optimized for end-to-end solutions.

Both chips are compliant with the AEC-Q100 automotive reliability standard and feature an on-chip lockstep safety island with ASIL-D integrity, achieving an overall ASIL-B safety level. They also support dual-chip redundant configurations for enhanced system reliability.

The Axera M97 boasts a processing power of 400KDMIPS and an equivalent AI computing capacity of up to 720 TOPS. It integrates 16 Arm Cortex-A78AE CPU cores and supports 16 camera inputs through its proprietary ISP (Image Signal Processor). The M95 offers 257KDMIPS processing power and 360 TOPS of AI computing capacity, supporting 14 camera inputs.

Axera states that the M97 and M95 demonstrate superior performance and reduced latency in end-to-end and VLA (Vision-Language-Audio) models compared to industry benchmarks. The latency for ISP channels has reportedly been reduced by 70 percent.
