Axfoundation Promotes Circular Economy and New Materials
Axfoundation supports innovative projects utilizing renewable and waste materials in consumer products and food.

The Axfoundation has recently supported various initiatives focused on reducing waste and advancing the circular economy. The foundation's efforts have concentrated on developing and integrating novel materials, such as mycelium, fish leather, and other natural resources.
One project backed by Axfoundation showcased footwear made from mycelium and bags crafted from fish leather, presented during Stockholm Fashion Week. These materials, alongside objects derived from oyster shells and reeds, present alternatives to conventional plastics and leathers in the consumer goods sector.
The foundation has also invested in food technology innovations. One initiative aims to enhance iron absorption from whole grains through the development of a new snack product. Additionally, Axfoundation has supported research substituting soy with mycoprotein in chicken feed for egg production, contributing to a reduced environmental footprint in food manufacturing.
Further reports by Axfoundation highlight the issue of wool waste in the Nordic region, estimating approximately 2,400 tons are discarded annually. The foundation is actively promoting the repurposing of wool and is working towards establishing a European wool standard, with the Swedish model serving as a foundation for this endeavor.
