Axians Strengthens Cybersecurity for Critical Infrastructure
Axians, an IT service provider within the VINCI Energies group, has successfully updated the IT systems and enhanced the cybersecurity of a regional water utility. The company is classified as a critical infrastructure (KRITIS) operator in Germany, imposing stringent requirements on the reliability and security of its IT operations.
The project focused on implementing "Advanced Malware Protection" and "Intrusion Prevention" systems. These are designed to prevent unauthorized access and the spread of malicious software within the network.
The upgrade was a collaborative effort with Actemium, with Axians providing expertise in IT and network technology. The objective was to establish a "watertight" IT environment ensuring operational continuity and defending against cyber threats, including ransomware.
The solution involved network segmentation using a zone model, prioritizing the process control system. Dual firewalls were employed for internet connectivity, and system redundancy ensures continuous operation even if individual components fail. Security products from Cisco and Fortinet were integrated.
The upgrade was conducted in parallel with existing systems, avoiding operational downtime and minimizing risks to the client's daily operations. This approach ensures that vital services, such as water supply, remain uninterrupted and secure from advanced cyber threats.
