Axians modernizes network infrastructure for 16 schools in Böblingen

Axians Deutschland, an IT system integrator and managed services provider, is modernizing and expanding the network infrastructure at 16 schools in the German city of Böblingen. The project, which spans three years and began in the summer of 2019, aims to establish an infrastructure capable of supporting digital learning environments.

Axians Networks & Solutions was awarded the contract to implement a high-performance and secure Wi-Fi environment across all 16 schools. The initiative intends to enhance student learning by equipping classrooms with digital presentation systems, laptops, and tablets. Students can already access learning software and teaching materials via individual accounts on school computers.

Installation and configuration of network components, including switches and access points, are scheduled during school holidays to minimize disruption to educational activities. The rollout commenced during the autumn holidays of 2019, with parts of the new network operational in twelve schools by early 2020.

The city of Böblingen had already laid the groundwork for digital classrooms prior to the national "Digitalpakt Schule" (Digital School Pact) initiative, which came into effect in May 2019. Its 16 schools have been connected to the municipal network via fiber optics for 20 years, providing a robust foundation for the current Wi-Fi modernization.

Axians is responsible for the delivery, configuration, and long-term maintenance of the network components. The project involves collaboration with the Böblingen city administration and a planning consultancy.
