Axians: SAP Solution Manager can be a valuable tool

IT services company Axians has released an analysis of SAP Solution Manager (SolMan), aiming to counter skepticism surrounding the software and highlight its potential.

Axians notes that SAP Solution Manager has been part of SAP's support strategy for over a decade, but its use has led to divided opinions. Some companies utilize SolMan fully and enthusiastically, while others only leverage parts of its functionality or leave it largely unused. The company points out that reasons for non-use often stem from knowledge gaps or irrational biases.

In its press release, Axians presents several reasons why a more positive view of SAP Solution Manager is warranted. It emphasizes that many SolMan tools, such as project management, process management, testing, and ITSM, are already included in the SAP support contract. The cost and effort to implement these tools are often lower compared to acquiring and implementing equivalent solutions from third-party vendors.

Furthermore, Axians highlights SolMan's integration capabilities. While individual functions can be used separately, the seamless integration between tools offers significant added value. This enables, for example, documentation of compliance requirements all the way to a tested production delivery. The company also mentions that SAP has significantly improved SolMan in recent years through software updates and new features like Focused Build and Focused Insights.

Axians urges companies to give SolMan another chance, especially if their past experiences are from earlier versions of the software. The company also advises checking the system's basic configuration, as inadequate setup can lead to errors and distorted perceptions of the software's reliability. Finally, Axians reminds that many of SolMan's functions can be used pragmatically without complex or marketing-driven presentations.
