Back Market Opens First Physical Store in New York City
Back Market, a marketplace for refurbished electronics, has opened its first physical retail store in SoHo, New York. The pilot store aims to allow customers to see, touch, and test refurbished products, promoting a more sustainable consumption cycle.

Back Market, a leading marketplace for professionally refurbished electronics, has opened its first-ever physical retail store in New York City's SoHo district. The temporary store, operating from October 1 to December 21, 2025, aims to challenge the rapid upgrade cycle in the tech industry by offering consumers a hands-on experience with refurbished devices.
The store is designed to be a warm and inviting space, deviating from the sterile atmosphere often found in traditional tech retail. Visitors can interact with refurbished smartphones, tablets, and other electronics, learn about Back Market's circular economy principles, and experience interactive displays that highlight the quality and savings. Services like device diagnostics, screen repairs, and trade-in options are also available.
In partnership with Google Fi Wireless, the store will also provide information on flexible and secure mobile plans, aligning with Back Market's mission of smarter, not newer, consumption. "When people experience refurbished tech in person, they see the quality, the savings, and the potential to live smarter," said Thibaud Hug de Larauze, co-founder and CEO of Back Market. He expressed hope that the store will build trust in refurbished technology and drive momentum for a more sustainable future.
"In Europe, refurbished tech is already a $50 billion market, and the same shift is underway in the U.S.," commented Lauren Benton, General Manager, USA at Back Market. She noted that younger consumers, particularly Gen Z, are leading the charge, and the store aims to make refurbished technology more visible and accessible. The space will also host community events and workshops to engage locals in discussions about sustainability and conscious consumption.
