BAIC FOTON expands African commercial vehicle portfolio with new truck and hybrid models
BAIC FOTON has introduced the GALAXUS series of heavy trucks and the TUNLAND V PHEV pickup to the African market. The launch targets industrial haulage and logistics applications across the continent.
On October 29, at a partner conference in South Africa, BAIC FOTON unveiled three new vehicle models: the GALAXUS R5 and GALAXUS C5 heavy trucks, and the TUNLAND V PHEV pickup. The company stated that these additions are designed to address the specific logistics and infrastructure challenges present in the African market.
The GALAXUS R5 is engineered for long-distance haulage and logistics, emphasizing aerodynamic efficiency and cabin safety. In contrast, the GALAXUS C5 is built for heavy-duty industrial use, including mining and engineering applications, featuring a reinforced steel frame and high ground clearance for rough terrain.
The TUNLAND V PHEV integrates a hybrid powertrain designed to reduce reliance on charging infrastructure while providing heavy towing capabilities. BAIC FOTON intends to leverage its existing South African manufacturing base to support regional distribution and maintenance, as the company seeks to broaden its role in the continent's logistics development.
