BAIC FOTON Expands African Heavy Vehicle Lineup with New Models
BAIC FOTON has introduced the GALAXUS series of heavy-duty trucks and the TUNLAND V PHEV hybrid pickup to its African market portfolio.
During a regional partner conference held on October 29 in South Africa, BAIC FOTON unveiled the GALAXUS R5 and GALAXUS C5 heavy-duty trucks, alongside the TUNLAND V PHEV plug-in hybrid pickup. These additions are designed to address specific industrial and logistical challenges, ranging from long-haul freight to heavy-duty mining operations across the continent.
The GALAXUS R5 model focuses on aerodynamic efficiency and driver comfort for trans-border and port logistics, featuring reinforced safety standards. Conversely, the GALAXUS C5 is engineered for high-load capacity in sectors such as mining and civil engineering, utilizing high-strength steel frames and increased ground clearance to navigate complex terrain.
The TUNLAND V PHEV combines internal combustion with electric propulsion, offering a 1,000 km combined range and a 3.5-ton towing capacity. This vehicle is positioned to serve versatile mobility needs while reducing dependence on public charging infrastructure through its plug-in hybrid architecture.
These launches signify FOTON's broader strategy to scale its presence in Africa by leveraging its local production base. By focusing on localized operations and specialized vehicle capabilities, the company aims to support regional efforts to modernize logistical infrastructure.
