BAIC FOTON expands African operations through local manufacturing and supply chain deals

BAIC FOTON hosted its regional partner conference on October 29 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, outlining plans to deepen its footprint across 54 African markets. The manufacturer reported an export volume exceeding 168,500 vehicles during the first nine months of 2026, marking a 43.6% year-on-year increase.

The event served as a platform for signing several infrastructure and supply agreements. Notably, BAIC FOTON finalized contracts for the delivery of heavy trucks to Ghana and Zambia, alongside new localized manufacturing agreements in Tanzania, Kenya, and Zimbabwe. The company currently operates 16 assembly facilities on the continent supported by over 300 service points.

To address local infrastructure needs, the company introduced the GALAXUS R5 and C5 heavy trucks and the TUNLAND V PHEV pickup. Moving forward, the company intends to utilize South Africa as a regional hub to expand operations into East, North, and West Africa, with an emphasis on integrating alternative energy vehicles into sectors such as mining and agriculture.
