BAIC Foton outlines localization strategy at Africa partner summit
BAIC Foton hosted a partner conference in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, to discuss accelerating the localization of its automotive operations.

On October 29, BAIC Foton held a partner summit at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. The event, which drew nearly 700 attendees including government officials and business partners, focused on the company’s efforts to localize its automotive manufacturing and supply chain.
The localization strategy is aimed at reducing dependency on imported vehicle components and positioning the company closer to its African client base. By establishing stronger local ties, BAIC Foton intends to improve its response time and maintenance support for its heavy-duty vehicle fleets.
The company is currently shifting its business model to integrate more local content into its assembly processes, marking a transition from a traditional export-led strategy to a more regionalized manufacturing approach.
