Baidu announced on September 21 its plans to accelerate the overseas expansion of its AI productivity business, while simultaneously implementing a global brand upgrade.
The company's Kooko platform, formerly Oreate AI, has surpassed 10 million overseas users since its launch last year. Developed by Baidu's Personal Super Intelligence Group, Kooko has evolved into a general-purpose agent architecture, incorporating personalized memory and tighter integration between local and cloud-based work environments.
Kooko consolidates memory, domain-specific skills, authorized public and private content, and office suite editing within a single workspace. The platform assists users in researching, analyzing, and creating documents, presentations, spreadsheets, and code. It also retains edits and project outcomes as context for future tasks.
Baidu's international strategy for Kooko emphasizes localization over direct competition with individual AI products like ChatGPT. According to Adam Wen, head of overseas business at Baidu’s Personal Super Intelligence Group, users in markets such as Brazil and Colombia prioritize contextual understanding and efficient, cost-effective results. Baidu views the AI software market as expanding and aims to enhance Kooko's utility across industries, exploring its potential to help self-employed workers increase income.
The company is utilizing Kooko's global rollout as a learning opportunity to understand user behavior in different markets. In Latin America, it is testing the platform with large freelance and self-employed groups, while in Europe, usage patterns are being observed for future feature development. Baidu also confirmed the application of consistent security and privacy standards across all markets.
