Baidu CFO: AI business may soon match search in profit

Baidu's artificial intelligence (AI) operations are poised to achieve profitability and cash flow returns similar to the company's established search engine business, stated Chief Financial Officer Henry He.

Currently, revenue generated from AI services, which encompass cloud computing and various applications, accounts for more than 50% of Baidu's total sales. He anticipates that the profit margins for these AI-driven revenues could soon approach those of the search business. This projection is supported by a growing demand for cloud services and specialized AI chips.

The company is investing in new GPU clusters to support its AI services, with expectations that these investments will yield returns within a two-to-three-year timeframe. This strategic shift underscores Baidu's focus on expanding its AI capabilities alongside its core search and advertising operations.
