Baidu develops world model to advance autonomous driving capabilities
Baidu is building a world model designed to simulate physical environments, a move aimed at enhancing the decision-making capabilities of its autonomous driving systems.

Baidu is currently developing a world model intended to learn and represent physical environments, allowing AI systems to better predict changes in real-world scenarios. This research is widely viewed as a critical step toward improving the safety and efficiency of autonomous vehicles.
While specific details remain limited, the primary application for this model is expected to be Baidu’s Apollo Go robotaxi division. By predicting the behavior of pedestrians, other vehicles, and road obstacles, the model could significantly refine the planning capabilities of existing self-driving software.
Baidu has not yet disclosed a timeline for the model's release or its direct integration into current systems. However, the company’s extensive operations across 28 cities provide a significant repository of real-world driving data, which serves as a foundation for testing and refining the proposed model.
