Bain & Company predicts that US retail sales will experience a 4.5% year-over-year growth during the crucial holiday shopping season in November and December. This expansion is expected to push total sales past the $1 trillion mark for the first time.
Online shopping is anticipated to continue its accelerated growth, with nonstore sales projected to increase by 9% year-over-year. These online sales are expected to account for approximately 60% of the total nominal sales growth. Sales in physical stores are forecast to grow at a pace similar to last year.
The analysis acknowledges headwinds facing retailers, including inflation and evolving consumer spending habits. Companies are advised to prepare for operating in a dynamic market landscape.
According to Bain & Company, retailers' success during this holiday season will depend on their ability to offer competitive pricing and maintain efficient supply chains.
