Bambu Lab captures global lead in consumer 3D printing market

Since its founding in 2020, Bambu Lab has scaled rapidly by addressing the technical friction common in desktop 3D printing. By integrating automated calibration, Lidar monitoring, and a proprietary material management system, the company has transitioned 3D printing from a hobby requiring technical expertise to a consumer-friendly experience. CONTEXT data indicates the company holds a 37% share of the global market for printers priced under $2,500.

Central to this growth is a vertical ecosystem strategy, connecting hardware with its MakerWorld model-sharing platform, which currently sustains approximately 10 million monthly active users. This ecosystem has expanded beyond printers into the R1 laser cutter, signaling a broader push into desktop fabrication tools for designers and small-scale manufacturers.

This rapid expansion has resulted in legal scrutiny regarding intellectual property. In September 2026, a Texas jury ordered the company to pay $27.6 million in damages for infringing on patents held by Stratasys. Bambu Lab has stated its intent to appeal the ruling as it continues to grow its hardware portfolio and expand its presence in both domestic Chinese and international markets.
