BASF Technology Deployed at Cheniere LNG Facility in Texas

BASF has announced the commissioning of its Durasorb® LNG MAX technology at Cheniere Energy’s Corpus Christi LNG facility in Texas. This significant deployment now operates across multiple mid-scale and large-scale liquefaction trains.

The installation of Durasorb at the facility began in 2025, with Cheniere planning to complete its deployment and commissioning across all remaining trains by the end of 2027. Durasorb LNG MAX provides a single-unit adsorption solution that removes trace heavy hydrocarbons, BTEX compounds, and water to cryogenic specifications. This helps prevent freeze-out in equipment, reduces downtime, and improves operational reliability.

According to BASF, the technology is suitable for both retrofitting existing facilities and for new "greenfield" projects. The company provides process modeling, adsorbent materials, and technical support. Maas Hinz, Executive Vice President of Operations at Cheniere, stated the technology has strengthened the company’s debottlenecking program and supported organic growth of its existing liquefaction platform.

The Corpus Christi installation demonstrates the technology’s performance in large-scale commercial operations, building on earlier smaller-scale applications. The deployment at Cheniere represents a significant commercial demonstration of the technology’s capability to address process challenges within the energy sector.
