BAUHAUS Automates Logistics Operations With XYZ Robotics

German DIY and home improvement retailer BAUHAUS has deployed robotic systems developed by XYZ Robotics at its logistics center in Krefeld, Germany. The new systems, based on RockyOne and RockyOne SE robots, automate the entire process of unloading sea containers, sorting goods, and palletizing them. The aim is to improve operational efficiency and safety, while reducing the physical strain on employees.

BAUHAUS, which operates over 290 stores across 19 countries, handles a high volume of goods at its Krefeld hub daily. The incoming shipments vary significantly in shape, weight, and packaging, previously requiring substantial manual labor in receiving as conventional automation systems were insufficient.

XYZ Robotics' solution enables autonomous unloading of containers filled with loosely packed cartons of various sizes. The system identifies and sorts each carton in real-time via scanning. In the final stage, RockyOne SE builds pallets according to customer-specific patterns, resulting in stable and warehouse-ready units.

Manual container unloading is physically demanding, involving repetitive lifting in confined spaces, which increases the risk of injury and staff turnover. With the new automation, employees transition from strenuous tasks to monitoring the system via tablet devices. BAUHAUS is already evaluating the use of this technology at other logistics nodes.

XYZ Robotics is expanding its European presence with this Krefeld deployment, offering local, full lifecycle support for its solutions to other warehouse and distribution operators.
