The firefighting operation began on Tuesday afternoon. Initially, the affected battery containers were cooled from the outside, but the strategy was later changed. Firefighters broke open the burning containers and tackled the blaze from within using specialized equipment dispatched from Dresden. The operation successfully extinguished the fire during the night.
Authorities will continue to monitor the batteries for an additional five days to prevent any recurrence. Preliminary findings suggest a technical defect as the likely cause, with no indications of external involvement. The precise cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The city confirmed that the fire extinguishing water has been tested and found to be free of hazardous substances. However, residents were advised not to consume any fruits or vegetables from gardens that may have come into contact with the water. The fire involved four battery containers used for grid stabilization, which ignited on Tuesday afternoon.
