BCG and Technical University of Munich launch AI research partnership

Boston Consulting Group and the Technical University of Munich have established a research cluster to study the strategic integration and business impact of artificial intelligence.

5 November 2026

Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and the Chair of Strategy and Organization at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) have launched a joint initiative, the “BCG + TUM AI Strategy Research Cluster.” The partnership aims to address the common challenge companies face in converting technical AI adoption into measurable business value.

While many organizations have initiated AI projects, researchers note that breakthroughs in profitability and growth often remain elusive. The research cluster will analyze how firms can integrate AI technologies into their core corporate strategies and operational structures. A key focus is the role of non-technical leadership in steering process changes that drive value creation.

"For AI to realize its full potential, it must be deeply integrated into corporate strategy and processes," said Dr. Andrej Levin, a partner at BCG. The initiative seeks to establish theoretical frameworks while providing practical insights that can be implemented directly within corporate environments.

Work is already underway, with doctoral students from BCG participating in the research. Beginning in the winter semester of 2025, the partners will introduce academic coursework examining the lessons learned from AI successes and failures in the corporate world, complemented by a series of industry roundtables and conferences.
