BDC Emphasizes Employee Surveys for Organizational Improvement

The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) has outlined the importance of utilizing employee surveys to foster organizational development. A central theme is the necessity of actively applying the feedback gathered from these surveys to achieve meaningful results.

Adam Nalepa, Senior Business Advisor at BDC Advisory Services, stresses that failing to act on collected feedback renders the survey process ineffective. "If you're collecting feedback but not actually doing anything with it… that's the worst thing you can do with a survey," Nalepa stated.

Organizations employ employee surveys for various objectives, including refining workplace culture, boosting productivity by identifying areas for improvement, understanding employee experiences with new technologies, and reducing turnover by aligning employees with company goals. Surveys serve as an initial step in a continuous improvement cycle.

Nalepa advises that communication is key; companies must inform staff about survey findings and present a clear roadmap for how feedback will be implemented. BDC’s guidance covers different survey types such as engagement, satisfaction, feedback, pulse, onboarding, and exit surveys, underscoring the need for strategic use of each.
