BDC Guides Companies on Using Social Media for Recruitment
The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) is providing guidance to businesses on leveraging social media platforms to identify and attract top talent.

The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) has issued guidance for businesses on effectively using social media to recruit skilled employees. The advice emphasizes that an active approach on platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X can help reach passive candidates who are not actively seeking new employment.
Pascale Boulianne, Senior Advisor, Talent Acquisition at BDC, stated that social media significantly expands the pool of potential hires. By actively searching on these platforms, companies can connect with individuals who might not be aware of their openings or are not actively job hunting.
The bank also highlights that social media recruitment can reduce hiring costs compared to traditional job boards and print media. Furthermore, direct engagement with candidates allows companies to showcase their authentic brand and values, fostering a more personal connection.
BDC outlines the specific strengths of various platforms: LinkedIn is ideal for professional networking and targeted searches based on skills and experience. Facebook's vast user base and advertising tools reach a diverse audience, while X is useful for real-time job postings and industry engagement. Instagram offers visual opportunities to present the company culture.
