BDC Invests $100M to Support Rural and Remote Entrepreneurs
The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) and Community Futures/SADC+CAE/CBDC are launching a $100 million initiative to expand access to financing and advisory services for businesses in rural and remote areas.

The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) announced on October 15, 2025, a $100 million initiative aimed at increasing support for approximately 520,000 entrepreneurs in rural and remote communities across Canada. The program involves collaboration with the Community Futures/SADC+CAE/CBDC network, comprising 267 non-profit offices nationwide.
Entrepreneurs in rural areas represent a significant segment of Canada's economy, with an entrepreneurship rate of 17% in 2024, compared to 12% in urban centers. This new initiative is projected to contribute up to $250 million to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) over a five-year period.
Canada's Minister of Industry, Mélanie Joly, highlighted that the initiative leverages the complementary strengths of both organizations: BDC's expertise in financing and advisory services, and the Community Futures network's extensive local presence. BDC President and CEO Isabelle Hudon stated the goal is to provide fair opportunities for all entrepreneurs, regardless of their location.
Troy Dungate, President of Community Futures/SADC+CAE/CBDC, indicated that partnering with BDC will enhance the resources and opportunities available to rural and remote entrepreneurs. The collaboration is expected to yield significant positive impacts for individual Canadians and the national economy.
