BDC Unveils 5-Step Recruitment Plan for Small Businesses

The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) has published a guide offering small businesses a structured, five-step approach to enhance their recruitment process.

The guide emphasizes that successful hiring begins well before the interview stage, focusing on thorough preparation and effective job ad creation.

The initial step involves crafting a clear and compelling job description. This should detail the position title, provide information about the company and its employee value proposition (EVP), outline key responsibilities, specify required qualifications, and include application instructions. A precise description aims to attract suitable candidates and minimize time spent reviewing unsuitable applications.

The second phase concentrates on selecting appropriate recruitment tools, considering both the company's budget and the target candidate profile. BDC suggests utilizing various channels such as online job boards (e.g., Indeed, Jobboom), social media platforms (particularly LinkedIn), and targeted advertising. It is also advised to track which channels yield the best results.
