BE Group AB, a steel service company, announced improved financial results for the second quarter of 2016, characterized by a stronger profit and robust cash flow. The company's net sales decreased by 5 percent to SEK 1,047 million (SEK 1,104 million) compared to the same period last year, influenced by lower average market prices.

Despite the decline in net sales, operating profit saw a significant improvement, reaching SEK 31 million, up from SEK 10 million in the second quarter of 2015. The underlying operating profit also increased to SEK 21 million from SEK 12 million. The net profit for the quarter turned positive at SEK 19 million, a marked improvement from a net loss of SEK -13 million in the prior-year period. This enhancement was attributed to rising steel prices, improved underlying gross margins, and inventory gains.

Cash flow from operating activities remained strong, totaling SEK 36 million compared to SEK -28 million in the previous year's quarter. BE Group is continuing its strategic restructuring, including the phased exit from unprofitable operations in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The company has reorganized into three business areas: Sweden & Poland, Finland & Baltics, and the Parent Company and Group items for ongoing restructuring.

Looking ahead, BE Group anticipates a continued slight increase in steel prices during the third quarter, with demand expected to remain stable, accounting for seasonal holiday effects. The company aims to further improve its results through ongoing restructuring and operational improvements within its new organizational framework.
