Beijing Sees 77.5% L2 Assisted Driving Penetration in New Passenger Cars
New passenger cars in Beijing achieved a 77.5% penetration rate for L2 combined assisted driving systems in the first half of 2026. This figure significantly exceeds the national average of 70.5%.
In the first half of 2026, Beijing recorded a 77.5% penetration rate for L2 combined assisted driving systems in newly sold passenger vehicles. This rate is substantially higher than the national average of 70.5% for the same period.
The data was revealed at the 2026 World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference. Officials also noted that the penetration of Level 2 (L2) assisted driving features in new cars reached 70.5% nationwide. Additionally, 34.2% of new vehicles featured Navigation on Autopilot (NOA), and the first L3-level conditionally autonomous vehicles have begun operating in designated zones.
Beijing has been a key hub for intelligent connected vehicle development and testing. The city supports advanced autonomous driving testing through its demonstration zone, integrating vehicles, infrastructure, and cloud services. Over 1,500 autonomous driving test licenses have been issued, accumulating more than 65 million kilometers of test mileage.
The capital is also implementing autonomous driving services at transportation hubs like airports and tourist sites. Collaborative efforts with neighboring Tianjin and Hebei provinces aim to establish a regional ecosystem for intelligent connected new energy vehicles, attracting over 200 companies to the initiative.
