BeSound Expands Breast Cancer Screening with 3D Ultrasound Technology
Health tech startup BeSound is opening new clinics to offer 3D ultrasound screening, aiming to improve cancer detection in dense breast tissue as a supplement to mammograms.

US-based health tech startup BeSound has expanded its operations by opening a new clinic in New York City. The company offers 3D Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS), designed to complement traditional mammograms and enhance the detection of breast cancer, particularly in dense breast tissue.
BeSound's founder and CEO, Bailey Renger, established the company in response to personal experiences and a perceived gap in screening systems. Standard mammograms can miss cancers in dense breast tissue, a condition more prevalent among younger women. Organizations like the American Cancer Society have noted an increase in breast cancer among women under 50, who are often diagnosed at later stages.
The startup recently secured $6.8 million in seed funding. Its initial clinics are located in the Los Angeles area, and the new New York facility is part of its expansion strategy. BeSound reported a tenfold increase in revenue over the past nine months and anticipates similar growth in the coming quarter as operations extend to multiple new states.
The screening service does not require a physician's referral and is offered at a flat fee of $349. While the company currently does not accept insurance (as of October 2026), it is actively pursuing partnerships with payers. BeSound aims to provide insurance-covered scans through multiple payers in New York, California, and other expanding markets by the end of 2026.
