BILD Prevention Summit Calls for Accessible Healthcare and Early Detection
The sixth BILD Prevention Summit in Berlin brought together policymakers and medical experts to discuss making preventive healthcare accessible and emphasizing early detection of diseases.

The sixth annual BILD Prevention Summit convened in Berlin on October 7, 2026, focusing on practical strategies to make preventive healthcare accessible within daily life. The event aimed to foster proactive health measures before individuals become patients, gathering participants from politics, medicine, science, healthcare, and patient advocacy.
Held under the theme “Prevention works when it reaches people,” the summit addressed key areas including early detection, chronic conditions, vaccination, and digital health solutions like electronic patient records. The gathering included discussions on translating medical knowledge into actionable preventive steps that can be integrated into everyday routines.
German Health Minister Carsten Linnemann urged a shift in public and political perception of prevention. "Germany needs a change in mindset. We have to stop associating prevention with giving things up. Prevention doesn’t mean: you’re not allowed to do that. It means: you have something to gain. Prevention is an investment in quality of life and in the future of our society," Linnemann stated.
Experts and individuals sharing personal experiences emphasized that medical advancements are most impactful when health information is understandable and accessible, and preventive measures can be seamlessly incorporated into daily life. BILD is supporting this dialogue through its editorial coverage and a new reader survey to identify barriers to everyday prevention.
The summit also featured personal accounts, such as that of former footballer Aílton Gonçalves da Silva, who spoke about his experiences with obesity. Leading medical and research professionals from various university hospitals and institutes participated in the discussions.
