Bill Gates' Daughter's Company Phia Accused of Fraud

Bloomberg reported this week that Phia, a retail brand co-founded by Phoebe Adele Gates, the youngest daughter of Bill Gates, is accused of engaging in "cookie stuffing" fraud. This practice involves covertly placing tracking cookies on users' browsers, which can lead to the company receiving undeserved commissions on sales.
Phia operates as a price comparison and discount alert service, available through an app and a browser extension. The company earns commissions via affiliate links. However, Bloomberg's investigation found that Phia allegedly employed "cookie stuffing," a method where tracking cookies are installed without user interaction. If a user subsequently makes a purchase, the retailer attributes the sale to Phia, resulting in a commission payment that may not be rightfully earned.
Sources indicate that Phoebe Gates and co-founder Sophia Kianni were aware of these practices for at least six months. Legal experts believe such conduct could be classified as federal wire fraud under U.S. law. Attorney Ariel Givner has stated that similar offenses can carry penalties of up to 20 years imprisonment and fines.
Phoebe Gates has previously expressed a desire for her accomplishments to be recognized independently of her family's prominent background. Bill Gates and Phoebe Adele Gates have not yet commented on the allegations. A spokesperson for Phia stated that the company has learned from the incident and aims to provide an optimal shopping experience for its users.
